The Remote Mom Collective Podcast, Season 1 Episode 11
Hey Remote Mom Collective family!
I'm thrilled to share some key highlights from our latest podcast episode, "Overcoming the Status Quo," featuring the incredible Jennifer Cummins. Jennifer, a fellow military spouse and the CEO of Coral House Productions and JC Films, brought a wealth of insight and inspiration that we can all benefit from. This episode dives deep into the unique challenges faced by military spouses and provides actionable strategies for overcoming obstacles in remote work and entrepreneurship.
Here are a couple of golden nuggets from our conversation that struck a chord with me:
Combatting Military Spouse Unemployment with Creativity and Grit:
Did you know that the unemployment rate for military spouses is a staggering 21%? This has been a persistent issue for over a decade. Jennifer is tackling this head-on through her passion for filmmaking. She's working on a documentary titled "In the Shadows of Service: The Modern Military Spouse Story," which aims to bring awareness to these challenges. The film will follow the lives of several military spouses, highlighting the real impacts of frequent moves, deployments, and high unemployment rates. Jennifer's Kickstarter for the project is live, and though they've raised almost $12,000, they still need $75,000 for pre-production within the next 30 days. Supporting this project can make a huge difference – plus, backers can snag some cool rewards like VIP screening tickets and challenge coins!
The Power of Self-Grace and Positive Community:
One of my favorite pieces of advice from Jennifer was the importance of self-kindness and surrounding oneself with a positive community. As moms, we often face societal pressures and guilt, whether it's about our business ventures, parenting, or even simple activities like school craft projects. Jennifer reminded us that it's okay to set boundaries and not conform to unrealistic expectations. By practicing self-grace and leaning on a supportive network, we can build resilience and thrive both personally and professionally.
These are just a couple of the many insights Jennifer shared during our chat. Her journey from facing job market challenges to establishing her own successful business is nothing short of inspirational. I highly encourage you to listen to the full episode to get the complete picture and soak in all the wisdom Jennifer has to offer.
